Sensing

It is often the first ability that Adepts gain, separating them from their Adept days of “Glimpsing”.

Controlling one’s own Essence to get a ‘picture’ of things going on around them, is know in many cultures as Sensing. Sensing creates a 3-dimensional picture of the world around the Essence user, and is similar to Centering in that it’s used by suppressing their external Essence usage, making the user more sensitive to ‘elements’ that surround them. Then by Sensing out , a Radial “perspective” analogous to how radar washes out in all directions to give them a temporary picture of motion and action going on around them. For an Enlightened, Sensing is not constant or persistent but unlike Opening or Closing, it is a skill that does not create a real ‘imbalance’ in one’s Essence, physical or even mental capabilities as the Radius effect isn’t ever really “emitted”, but more-so “expands and contracts” nigh instantaneously.

This ability more than either Opening OR Closing is often associated in anthropological circles with the persisting phenomenon of Hominid species’ persistent dominance and respective Essence adept populations. Nominally it is often the “First” ability cited in numerous civilization’s Enlightenment traditions.
